SARA Study Of Acid Reflux And Asthma

 People with asthma have an increased frequency of silent Acid Reflux (GERD).  GERD can be silent (present without symptoms of heartburn) and can make asthma worse.  We do not know if treating people with asthma for silent GERD will help their asthma controls

 We are interested in learning whether treating silent GERD improve asthma

  WHAT is Involved in Participating in MIA (a study on Macrolides In Asthma)

 SARA involves 9 visits over 6-8 months, and taking a pill twice daily. The pill is a placebo or an FDA approved medication for treatment of GERD.

 Who is Eligible for SARA

• use prescribed asthma medicine regularly, but still have asthma symptoms;

• are at least 18 years old;        

• have not smoked in the last six months and have a limited smoking history;

• are not currently taking daily prescription medicine for acid reflux.
